Hype Pups started with a French Bulldog named Bruno and a founder, Vanessa, who couldn’t find a single thing that fit him. This is how a dog nobody could dress became the reason a whole brand exists.

I’m Vanessa, and I never set out to start a dog-fashion label. I set out to buy my dog a hoodie.

I got Bruno on a freezing January morning in 2018. He was nine weeks old, the runt of the litter, and he weighed less than the puffer jacket I was wearing to pick him up. The breeder handed him over, looked at his little barrel body, and said — completely deadpan — “Good luck dressing this one.” I laughed. I thought she was joking.

She was not joking.

“Good luck dressing this one,” the breeder said. She wasn’t kidding.

The problem

A body the whole industry ignores

Bruno has a classic French Bulldog build: a wide chest, a short back, a bowling-ball head, and a neck like a fire hydrant. Frenchies are basically shaped like a loaf of bread with opinions. And nothing — nothing — off the shelf fit him.

If a hoodie was long enough for his back, it strangled his chest. If it cleared his chest, it hung off him like a tarp. Every “small dog” garment was cut for a slim, leggy little dog — a Yorkie, a Chihuahua silhouette — not a stocky bulldog. The pet-store stuff was worse: cutesy, cheap, and built like an afterthought. None of it looked like anything I’d want to wear, and none of it actually fit the dog it was made for.

I kept thinking: there are millions of Frenchies, Pugs, Bostons, and Bulldogs out there. Why does the entire industry design as if they don’t exist?

The idea

Design for the dogs hardest to dress

So I flipped the problem. Instead of designing for the easy silhouette and hoping it stretched to fit a Frenchie, I started with the hardest body to fit and worked outward. Wide chest first. Short back first. Get that right, and a leaner dog is easy.

That single decision is still the spine of everything Hype Pups makes. It’s why our pieces fit French Bulldogs, Pugs, Bostons, and Bulldogs better than generic dog clothes — and it’s where the FB cut came from later: a French-Bulldog-friendly fit on select hoodies, vests, sweatshirts, jackets, and dresses, for the stockier dogs who need a little extra room. (Not every Frenchie needs it — most do great in a standard 2XL — but for the dogs who do, it’s a game-changer.)

The aesthetic

Dogs as style icons, not pets

The other thing I couldn’t shake: I wanted Bruno to look cool. Not cute. Cool. I’m into streetwear — the drops, the box logos, the culture — and I wanted that energy on a dog. So Hype Pups became designer-inspired streetwear and luxury-parody for dogs: Pupreme for the box-logo streetwear lineage, Chewy V for monogram, Pawda, Dogior, Furberry, Adidog, and Air Bud for sneakers and jerseys.

To be clear about it: these are parody-inspired, independently produced designs. We reference the codes of fashion culture — we’re not affiliated with, endorsed by, or partnered with any of the brands those names play on. It’s a love letter to streetwear, made wearable for a Frenchie.

I didn’t want Bruno to look cute. I wanted him to look cool.

The pieces that started it all

Now

Where it’s at today

What started as one impossible-to-dress Frenchie is now a catalog of 800+ designs, shipped worldwide with tracked delivery and real 14-day exchanges, worn by dogs across a 37,000+ following on Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook. We still obsess over fit the same way — which is why we publish real, customer-order-based sizing guidance instead of generic charts, and why you’ll never catch us claiming a piece comes in a size it doesn’t.

Bruno, for the record, has a closet most humans would envy. He earned it. He’s the reason all of this exists.

Founder bio — paste-ready (200 words)

Vanessa is the founder of Hype Pups, a premium designer dog-fashion brand she launched in 2018. The idea began with her French Bulldog, Bruno — the runt of his litter and, thanks to a classic Frenchie build of wide chest and short back, nearly impossible to dress in anything off the shelf. Frustrated that the entire pet-apparel industry designed around slim, leggy silhouettes while ignoring bulldog-type dogs, Vanessa built a label that starts from the hardest body to fit and works outward. The result is Hype Pups: designer-inspired streetwear and luxury-parody apparel — Pupreme, Chewy V, Pawda, Dogior, and more — cut to fit every breed, with standard sizing plus the FB cut on select pieces for stockier dogs. Under Vanessa’s direction, Hype Pups has grown to 800+ designs, a 37K+ social following, and a reputation for honest, fit-obsessed sizing in a category full of guesswork. She remains hands-on with design and fit, and credits Bruno as the brand’s true creative director.

Questions

Founder story — FAQ

Who is the founder of Hype Pups?
Hype Pups was founded by Vanessa in 2018, inspired by her French Bulldog Bruno, whom she couldn’t find well-fitting clothes for.
Why was Hype Pups started?

Is Hype Pups a real, legitimate business?
Yes — real warehouse, tracked shipping, Meta-verified Shop, 14-day exchanges, and real customer support. See Is Hype Pups Legit? and customer reviews.
